FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need to schedule a consultation first?
No! Consultations are meant to help you acclimate to the learning environment and allow you to convey your expectations and goals free of charge. If you know what you want and/or are ready to start right away, you may skip straight to booking!
What makes your approach different?
Many trans vocal coaches come at the subject from a highly technical angle while others prefer to use concepts and terminology familiar only to trained singers and/or theatre students. These approaches are perfectly valid and work for many people, but some people (including Alexis) require an approach based primarily on mimicry, physiological/tactile sensation, and readily digestible explanations of concepts such as resonance. That’s where she comes in! Plus, she’s a professional voice actress. That counts for something!
How long will the process take?
How long the process takes is largely dependent on how quickly you grasp the concepts discussed in class, how frequently you practice outside of class, and the quality of your practice!
How often should I book?
While Alexis generally recommends booking every one to two weeks, you will make the most progress in the time between classes, and you may not require as many as you think! Also, the last thing Alexis wants is for you to go breaking your bank booking tons of lessons. You’ve gotta eat, after all!
Will I still be able to use my old voice?
The sound of the voice depends entirely on muscle memory. You will likely be able to maintain your old range as long as you allow your voice to revert on a regular basis.
Do you teach vocal masculinization?
Not at the moment. Alexis knows a lot about the voice, but she is not yet familiar enough with vocal masculinization exercises to successfully coach others all the way through the masculinization process. However, she can certainly help you get started via her vocal androgynization classes!
I’m 17 years old. Can I take classes with you?
Sadly, no. Alexis would love nothing more than to open up her classes to trans kids and their parents but, due to the harsh civil and criminal penalties politicians across the world currently impose and seek to impose on those who assist trans kids with any part of their transition, she can’t take the risk. She does, however, fight every single day to bring awareness to these injustices and stands proudly and unapologetically with trans kids and their loving families.
Do I need to be trans/non-binary to take classes with you?
No! Cis and/or detransitioning people are more than welcome to take classes with Alexis to help expand their vocal ranges.

Your Terms and Conditions mention artificial intelligence. Why is that?
Artificial intelligence and machine learning pose a significant threat to creatives’ livelihoods and the broader creative spirit. This is especially true for actors, writers, and artists of all kinds. As such, Alexis requires that all clients seeking her assistance with casting and directing refuse to use AI-generated artwork and scripts while protecting cast members’ unique voices by signing the NAVA Synthetic Voice/Artificial Intelligence Rider.
